We can recycle, compost, stop using one-time throw away products and still find pleasures in life. We can begin to think and act differently about our vehicle usage and still find pleasures in life. NEW Environmentally Friendly Shampoo & Conditioner Bars
Environmentally Conscious Product Spotlight
The Harvest Moon is excited to tell you about a new environmentally conscious product we have added to the store’s toiletry line up. HiBAR is a company that specializes in shampoo and conditioner bars. Yes, you heard that right, shampoo and conditioner BARS.
|
No more plastic bottles, no more plastic lids, no more frustration with which numbered plastics can be recycled. HiBAR products are made with no plastic packaging whatsoever.
We are carrying the HiBAR variety shown to the right and would be willing to offer additional varieties based on customer interest.
|
HiBAR was started a couple of years ago by four friends and fellow optimists (Nora, Jay, Ward and Dion) who got talking one night and realized they’d all been working separately on the same project: getting rid of plastic in the bathroom.
So they officially banded together to re-engineer how people wash and care for their hair. After a lot of trial and error, working with a team of hair care professionals, HiBAR was born. Solid shampoos and conditioners that skip the need for plastic packaging. No plastic. Just beautiful hair. Huzzah!
|
HiBAR feels and smells lovely, cares for your hair as well as a bottled salon product, and it’s free of chemical nasties.

Harvest Moon Employee Spotlight: Rachel Henson
Home Grown in Floyd!
|
Rachel is a home-grown girl from Floyd County. She began working for the Harvest Moon in the stockroom receiving orders and has since also tackled working as a cashier. Rachel is both dedicated and hardworking, and the store and its customers are fortunate to have her.
|
Rachel has two favorite companions, her dog, Charles (pronounced Chalzzz) and her ferret, Loki. Chalzzz, described best as a scruffy terrier mix, gets to spend a lot of time with Rachel out of doors hiking, fishing, and hanging out along the rapids behind their home. He loves greeting visitors by jumping into their cars to say hi, and, then politely exiting the car to return to the house. Loki, as his Norse mythological namesake implies, enjoys all things mischievous. He is a master in the art of cage break outs only to visit all of the nearby trash cans leaving a trail of tissues and dental floss in his wake.
|
One of Rachel’s favorite hobbies is photography. Rachel began taking pictures when she was 12 years old, with flowers, animals, landscapes, and anything ‘dark and moody’ being her most coveted photographic subjects. When she is not taking pictures, you can find Rachel painting, mostly landscapes and ‘random, weird things’ as she describes her work.
|
Speaking of random, in preparation for writing our employee articles, I always ask the employee for any random facts they can share with you the reader. I usually receive comments like: My first child weighed 12 lbs. 14oz, and I had a natural birth, or I am the proud owner of 15 indoor cats who all share my 300 sq. ft. tiny house, or even better yet, I travelled cross country when I was 17 on roller skates eating nothing but dill pickles and almonds, organic of course. You get the idea. But not Rachel. She decided to be different. Her random fact: The unicorn is the national animal of Scotland. What?
The unicorn is the national animal of Scotland? I had never heard this before, so being the literalist I am, I obviously had to do some fact checking. Well, come to find out, the national animal of Scotland really is the unicorn.’ The national animal of a country is supposed to represent the values that are important to that nation.
|
Scotland’s culture is full of superstitions, myths, and legends, and it is for these reasons that the Scots chose a unicorn as their national animal. What a great random fact. The best to date I would say!

Rachel is the baby of her family with 3 older sisters. She is also the proud Aunt of Linnea and Julian whom she loves to hang out with any chance she gets. Throwing rocks in the river is one their favorite pastimes when together.
Rachel can often be found with her best friend Ashley tie dyeing anything they can get their hands on, hiking and binge watching Grey’s Anatomy. Her favorite food is potatoes, every type in all its forms, and her least favorite food is eggs. Rachel’s most favorite travel spot is Imperial Beach in San Diego, CA.
The next time you are in the Harvest Moon, please welcome Rachel to our community of foodies and friends.
